How to Help:
At the Big Hoof Foundation, every contribution—large or small—creates a lasting impact in the lives of the horses we rescue and care for. We’re proud to ensure that 100% of every dollar raised goes directly toward feed, medical treatment, and daily care—unless a donation is specifically designated for another purpose.
There are many meaningful ways to support our mission and help us continue providing second chances. See below for all the ways you can help and make a difference in the lives of neglected and rescued horses
By standing with Big Hoof Foundation, you’re giving these incredible animals the love, safety, and healing they deserve. Thank you for being an essential part of their journey to recovery.
Donate Stock to Support the Big Hoof Foundation
Giving stock is a simple and powerful way to support the Big Hoof Foundation’s mission. When you donate appreciated securities directly to us, you can make a lasting impact while potentially receiving significant tax benefits. By transferring shares rather than selling them, you may avoid capital gains taxes and still claim a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of your gift. Once received, we convert the stock into funds that directly support our programs and initiatives helping horses and the communities that care for them.

General Donation Funds
Feed The Herd Fund
Our herd goes through approximately 100 round bales of hay each month. On top of that, our special needs horses require Alpha Pro, senior feed, mare and foal feed, and essential medications to maintain their health and well-being. Simply put—we always need feed to keep our horses nourished and thriving. Click the "Donate here" button to learn more about this fund.
Medical Fund
Many of the horses we rescue come to us later in life, often after years of neglect or abuse, and they require extensive—and ongoing—medical care. This fund helps cover the cost of the treatments they need to recover, stay healthy, and live out their lives with comfort and dignity. Click the "Donate here" button to learn more about this fund.
Emergency Fund
With over 100 horses in our care, having an emergency fund is essential. Unexpected costs beyond our regular operations are a constant reality, and this fund ensures we're prepared to respond quickly when urgent needs arise. Click the "Donate here" button to learn more about this fund.
Sponsor A Horse
Sponsoring one of our permanent retired horses is a powerful way to support the long-term care of our beloved equine family. Your sponsorship helps provide for their daily essentials—shelter, nutritious food, medical care, and enriching activities that keep them happy and engaged.
Your commitment offers more than just resources—it brings stability, comfort, and a sense of security to horses who deserve nothing less than a safe, loving home for the rest of their lives.
How it works: You have the option to sponsor your favorite horse for a month for $100. Simply click on the button below and explore the horses currently enjoying their retirement on the farm. When you find your favorite one or one who's story speaks to you, click on the purchase button to complete their sponsorship for the month.
Your name will be added to the horse’s bio and story in recognition of your support. If you prefer to remain anonymous, just let us know—we’re happy to honor your privacy.
Thank you for helping us give these deserving horses the peaceful retirement they’ve earned.

Sponsor Care
Every horse at the Big Hoof Foundation has a unique story—and unique needs. Some require special diets, ongoing medications, additional therapy, or additional veterinary attention due to age, injury, or past neglect. All horses at the foundation realso require routine care such as getting their hooves trimmed (farrier day), teeth floated, and vaccinations. Donate Items To The Horses
If you would rather send the horses items they NEED (or needed for their care) or want to spoil them, check out our Wish lists below. We can also always use Tractor supply gift cards for things like pine shavings for the stalls, buckets, etc.
The one item WE always need is FEED!
With 117 horses and 31 donkeys currently on the property,
donations of feed are always appreciated!
We have changed the way we are feeding the herd since we have grown so much this year.
A horse's natural diet consists of pasture grass and tender plants. The herd is now mostely eating beardless wheat and alfalfa. We feel that taking the horses to a natural diet is what is best for their gut health.
We use small square bales of beardless wheat for the horses that are inside barn with special needs or horses that have just arrived to the farm. Square bales can also be purchased for $14.95 each.
The special needs horses also eat Alfa-Pro which is a complete pelleted alfalfa mixed with vitamins and minerals.
Alfa-Pro is $17.45 per bag. HF&C offers a discount if you purchase by the pallet (40 - 50 pound bags) $16.95 per bag if purchased by the pallet. They also eat a sweet feed (Hi-Pro Senior feed) to help keep weight on the horses with bad teeth. Senior sweet feed is $24.87
With Velda bringing us a beautiful colt on June 12, 2025, she requires mare and foal feed. This feed can also be purchased from HF & C Amarillo for $26.13 per bag.
HF&C Amarillo has offered to help with anyone wanting to send a donation of Beardless wheat, Alfa Pro, Senior feed, and mare and foal feed to the horses. When you call, tell them you are sending a gift to Big Hoof Foundation and they will add the gifts to our account.
